MELIOS now has its own "Walk of Fame"!

"What lasts a long time will finally be good"! – says a German proverb. For years, the access road to the MELIOS shelter was impassable during heavy rainfall. Especially in the winter months, the MELIOS shelter helpers had to park their cars on the main road and bring food, materials and medicines to the shelter on foot. This is about 300-400m steep road down and back again. The rain made the road very muddy and slippery and there was no chance to get up the mountain by car.

It took a long time and many conversations, but the community of Gythio finally realized their promised help. This week there were workers from the city who cemented and fortified two passages of about 75 meters. Now it is possible to provide the dogs with a normal car without all-wheel drive even when it is raining. The MELIOS team thanks the municipality of Gythio very much and is happy not to have to bring all materials on foot anymore.

Of course the work was watched by the free running dogs present and the road was tested immediately afterwards – even if it was still wet!

For this reason, MELIOS now has its own "Walk of Fame"! However, it is the "Greek Walk of Fame" - with dog paws! ;-)

Walk of FameThe "MELIOS Walk of Fame" seems to be an instruction for a dance! :-) A dance of joy!Still the "grey mass" on the floor seems to be a bit strange!Vetty is the bravest of them all! She is the first to test the road for strength and leaves her paw prints on the “Walk of Fame!”The upper road section shortly after completion! The first section from below – the most critical and the most slippery when it rains - is fixed.WOW! The MELIOS car uses the paved road for the first time.Of course the vehicles will be welcomed by the official guests at the inauguration! ;-)The street just before the opening!Walk of Fame

Dimi and Ossi. Not sister and brother. Just roomies for many years. They are about 8 years old and they are with us since they were puppies and apparently they will stay until they die inside a cage. Even though they were small size noone asked to adopt them. It's a pity!
